👍 What I Love
  • Holds makeup 16+ hours
  • Lightweight — no heaviness
  • Only $7
  • Works in humidity and heat
  • Does not look cakey
👎 What Could Be Better
  • Strong chemical smell at first spray

e.l.f. Power Grip Primer
👍 What I Love
  • Incredible all-day hold
  • Hyaluronic acid adds hydration
  • Only $10
  • Gel texture grips any foundation
  • Works under any foundation type
👎 What Could Be Better
  • Slightly sticky feel during application
  • Bottle runs out fast with heavy use
🏆 Jodi's Verdict

e.l.f. Power Grip Primer is the better buy — but use both together.

Both are incredible drugstore wins. The NYX setting spray goes on last and locks everything in place — at $7 it's a no-brainer. The e.l.f. primer goes on first and creates the foundation grip that makes your whole look last. If I'm picking one, e.l.f. Power Grip at $10 delivers more value: the hyaluronic acid hydrates, and the hold is genuinely impressive. But my real recommendation? Use both. Primer under, setting spray on top. That combo survives a full day in a shop and still looks fresh at dinner.
