Pros & Cons

ONE+ 18V Cordless 1/2" Drill/Driver Kit
👍 What I Love
  • ONE+ battery works with 280+ Ryobi tools
  • Half the price of Milwaukee and DeWALT
  • 24-position clutch for controlled driving
  • 2-speed gearbox for versatility
  • Kit includes battery and charger — no extras needed
👎 What Could Be Better
  • Motor not built for daily heavy professional use
  • Chuck wobbles on some units
  • Battery takes longer to charge than premium brands
DCF887B 20V MAX XR Impact Driver
👍 What I Love
  • 1,825 in-lbs of torque for serious work
  • Brushless motor for years of reliable use
  • 3-speed settings for precision control
  • Compact size fits tight spaces
  • LED light ring actually useful on the job
👎 What Could Be Better
  • Bare tool only — battery sold separately
  • Bit holder could be more magnetic
🏆 Jodi's Verdict

DeWALT is the clear winner for serious work. Ryobi wins on budget.

If you're a homeowner who hangs shelves, assembles furniture, and does occasional repairs, Ryobi at $79 with battery included is genuinely the right call. You get everything you need, and the ONE+ ecosystem means future tools are cheap. But if you're doing regular construction, renovation, or professional work — stop here. The DeWALT 20V MAX at $119 (bare tool) is a different class of tool. The brushless motor, torque output, and build quality aren't marginal improvements, they're the difference between a tool that lasts 3 years and one that lasts 15. My shop runs DeWALT. My brother-in-law runs Ryobi and has no complaints. Know which one you are.
